What is Counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy where you can privately discuss your issues in a safe, confidential environment without being judged.
It is an active process and can hopefully lead to increased insight into your life, relationships and most importantly, yourself. Counselling can help help you make changes as a result of these insights.
I am a fully qualified Person-Centred counsellor. However, I am also qualified to use techniques from other types of counselling, eg CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Transactional Analysis and creative therapies.
My background is in nursing and I have worked in hospitals, community and health promotion before becoing a counsellor. I have studied health to degree level and use a holistic approach to counselling.
I am a member of the BACP (MBACP) and abide by their ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. This framework covers areas such as values and principles of counsellors and is there to protect clients and counsellors. Standards in counselling are maintained by the framework.
I attend regular supervision and am committed to maintaining professional development and attending further training. I do not judge or discriminate against anyone according to race, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender or disability.
